Promoting Artisan Development: Handicraft inspired greeting cards


Do you want to contribute to artisan development? Do you like handicrafts? Share and gift these beautifully boxed packet of ten handicraft inspired blank cards with envelopes. 

Thanks to design and other volunteer contributions of the members of the Handicrafts of Uttar Pradesh volunteer group, each wooden box with ten cards and quality envelopes will only cost you Rs. 300 (including GST). 

ALL profits from the sale of the handicrafts of Uttar Pradesh products go to poor & marginalized artisans of Uttar Pradesh, particularly women and girls.

 


 
















More designs are being added every day. Series # 1 is as above. In series includes paintings from artists living in  Uttar Pradesh, drawing inspiration from its rich heritage of arts and crafts everyday.

Hundred Handicrafts Design Award 2017

Calling all creative individuals and groups to submit their designs for the Hundred Handicrafts Design Award 2017


Background
This award is institutionalized acknowledging the need to identify and celebrate new design concepts and innovations for promoting and preserving the handicraft heritage of Uttar Pradesh. Believing that a design must be evaluated based on its design merit without prejudice, the award is creating a platform to accept entries from all- students, companies, craft organizations, arts and crafts lovers, and of all ages and a process of review without prejudice.

2017 Design Theme
The focus of the 2017 Hundred Handicrafts Design Award is to develop a design using the theme and inspired by the Handicrafts of Uttar Pradesh. The design submissions can reflect any aspect of the large 100 handicrafts repertoire. This may include crafts persons, individual craft designs, materials, processes, products or any other dimensions. The size of the design is suggested to be 5x7 inches and will be used for developing and printing greeting card series. The submission will mention the individual handicraft(s) of Uttar Pradesh/India which have inspired the design creation. We invite designers to view the film showcasing the 15 categories of 100 handicrafts of Uttar Pradesh at link at the end of this post
Award Categories
In order to appraise the wide scope of card designs in a professional manner, the award has been broken down into three distinct categories: 

I. Hundred Handcrafts Design Award: Photographs
II Hundred Handicrafts Design Award: Drawing-Painting 
III Hundred Handcrafts Design Award: Innovation
Each award addresses a specific area- (i) The award for photographs accepts card designs using individual or combinations of photographs to create a design. These could include original photos taken by the submitter of crafts persons, craft products, craft processes others. The photo display in case of a collage will be designed for the card cover. (ii) The award for hand drawing- painting accepts the design using these techniques- pencil drawing; water colour painting, oil painting. This category includes designs drawn by hand (iii) The award for innovation or new mediums accepts designs exploring new mediums for design. These could include computer graphics, photo-shop, or any other innovative styles and techniques. 

Award prestige and recognition
Each of the 3 selected designs would receive the following:

(i) CERTIFICATE: The selection designers will receive the prestigious H-H Award Certificate 

(ii) CASH PRIZE: Each awardee will receive a cash prize along with the certificate 

(iii) CUP: The exclusive handmade "Handicrafts of Uttar Pradesh" will be given to each of the three awardees

(iv) RECOGNITION: Each of the selected designs will be printed marketed on hundreds of greeting cards with name of the designer mentioned in the credits on the card.   

(v) DEVELOPMENT: All awardees will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the artisans of Uttar Pradesh since major profits from the sale of the greeting cards will go towards the advancement and rights of the crafts persons.  The awardees will also be invited to interact with the jury members for ideas and future collaboration with the hundred handicrafts initiative.

Selection process/Jury

The entries will be subject to "blind" adjucation where the information of the participant are hidden from the jury. There will be five jury members experts from the handicrafts and design field. The Handicrafts of UP Secretariat will administer the selection process to ensure design merit without prejudice.  

Submission process and date 

The last date for submission to the award is 30th APRIL 2017. The submitter will guarantee that all the design entries are original of the individual and group and they have full copyright to their submitted designs. This guarantee will be presumed if the designs are submitted for the award. The submission will also permit use of their designs with their names in credits should the design be chosen for publishing in the greeting card or any other H-H Award related publication.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION
The 5x7 inch card designs would be submitted through  Facebook. Go to the Handicrafts of UP facebook and submit the photo of the design of the greeting card through an inbox message. Include the following information to ensure a complete submission [1] your name, [2] address [3] contact phone or e-mail details at the time of submission. [4] Also mention the handicraft of UP that has inspired your design [5]  The product you think your design may be best suited to represent or can be used- for example pottery, embroidery, metal ware others. [6] The submission presumes your copyright to the design so no need to state that again. [7] Optional- Any other qualitative comments or information related to your design

If your design is selected in the shortlist we may contact you for  additional details to facilitate the jury process

Overview - Hundred Handicrafts UP



Millions of  artisans in the State of Uttar Pradesh, both men and women, skillfully craft a variety of materials ranging from cotton, wool, silk yarn, thread, fabric, clay, glass, stone, wood, bone, horn, brass, gold, silver, various metals, gemstones, paper, flowers, cane, bamboo, grass, jute, leather, marble, paint, ink, dyes, resin, wax, reed, shells, others into a wide range of exquisite products for home & abroad.    

The Photo Gallery showcases the repertoire of over one hundred arts and crafts from across the 75 districts of UP. This is the first comprehensive mapping of the State’s craft heritage.  The objective is to increase awareness, promote & preserve the rich crafts traditions of the State and recognition of the hardworking artisans.
